A dedicated secretariat has been established within the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) consisting of four staff members who will be appointed on contract for a period of three years. This secretariat will be supported by HSRC researchers who will be contracted on a time spent basis to do certain specialist research, while the various support functions e.g. finance, IT, HR etc will be supplied by the applicable units in the HSRC. A number of more specialised support functions e.g. the development of the website could be contracted out to professional service providers.
The Project Manager will take charge of the day-to-day management of the project and ensuring that the project objectives and outcomes are met. The Project Administrator will provide the necessary administrative support to facilitate the smooth running of the project. Due to the important role that networking and making contact with stakeholders and clients will play in the ANSA-Africa setup, particularly given the Pan-African nature of the project, a dedicated Strategic Networking Specialist will be appointed. This position will require specialised knowledge of the various roleplayers and the dynamics relating to accountability issues in order to be in a position to be the link between ANSA-Africa and its clients and stakeholders. Whereas the project manager and administrator will mostly be based at the offices of ANSA-Africa, the networking specialist will need to spend a significant amount of time in the field assisting implementation partners setting up their networks and sourcing potential ANSA-Africa opportunities throughout the continent. In addition, a Communications Officer will be brought on board to develop the necessary communication and training policies and to then implement these. This Manager will work closely with the strategic networking specialist in communicating with the clients and stakeholders of ANSA-Africa.
