Venue: Mombasa, Kenya
Development partners - government, bilateral and multilateral institutions have supported development initiatives in Sub-Saharan African countries and other developing countries for many years. One of the major beneficiaries has been the health sector. Funds have been released to support human capacity strengthening, institutional building and even infrastructure development. Much more development assistance has been targeted for procurement of drugs. With these ongoing efforts over the years, the Sub-Saharan Africa continues to struggle with an under-performing health sector where large populations are unable to access health care services for many reasons: inadequate health personnel, dilapidated health infrastructure and absence of drugs to name but a few. The question then arises: Where do all the health dollars go? How are these finances appropriated? Which are the main areas of leakage?
This course is aimed at building the capacities of health personnel and lobby bodies to track the utilization of health expenditure.
