EU advises CSO on budget monitoring
17 May 2011
Ghana MMA

Dutse:  The European Union Support to Reforming Institutions Programme (SRIP) Jigawa State Technical Unit, EU-SRIP, has advised Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the state on the need to participate in the budget process to ensure its transparency. The State coordinator for EU-SRIP, Neda Imasuen, gave the advice when he addressed newsmen shortly after a sensitisation workshop at the Three Star Hotels in Dutse, the state capital. He said proper budget monitoring would put policy-makers on their toes on the need for accountability.

He said the EU-SRIP organised the workshop to equip the CSOs with the strategies for budget monitoring  for the growth of democracy. "CSOs have been organized by the EU-SRIP in Jigawa; we have opened up offices for them and we have provided them with computers, and other facilities that will help them to be on their own as well as help them participate in the budgetary processes in the state," he said.

The Coordinator indicated that the CSOs unanimously endorsed what Governor Sule Lamido had been doing in terms of implementation of budgets.
