18 June 2007
Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative (CABRI)
The Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative (CABRI) and the World Bank Institute (WBI) held a joint training programme between 18 and 22 June 2007 in Pretoria, South Africa.
Over 70 participants from 18 African finance and planning ministries attended the training programme. The programme comprised of two parts: traning workshop on key elements of modern public financial management (PFM) systems and study tour to the South African National Treasury. The training workshop covered a wide range of topics surrounding the policy/budget cycle in modern public finance systems. Case studies and exercises formed part of the programme to allow for practical application of the theory. The two day study tour of the National Treasury complemented the discussions during the training workshop exploring the current PFM systems in South Africa, how these have developed and what new reforms are underway.
