Inter-country workshop for developing plans of action for taking forward CMH related work
4 August 2003
World Health Organization (WHO)
Enhanced political commitment for health, and planning country actions to increase health investment were the two major objectives of the workshop organised by WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) with the dynamic support of the WHO Ethiopia Office and Headquarters. The six-day workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from the 4 - 9 August 2003, contributed towards discussions on improving the implementation of poverty reductions processes, the
achievement of MDGs, and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) targets.
Fourteen countries of the African Region – the host country Ethiopia, followed by Angola, Botswana, Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa – debated the findings of the CMH Report and drew up plans of action for taking the recommendations of the Report forward. Given the limited time, countries were requested to come up with tentative plans of action prior to the workshop. This meant that participants had already initiated contacts with key stakeholders in their countries, to present the Report’s findings and determine interest.
